Official National League signed by Babe Ruth across the sweet spot. Ruth's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen and grades "5" overall. Based upon the stampings, this ball dates to the narrow 1926-1927 manufacturing period, and given that "Babe" appears in quotation marks, it is all but a certainty that he signed it during that time (Ruth stopped signing his name with quotation marks sometime around 1928.) This ball is new to the hobby and has been in our consignor's family since the day her father obtained it during the late 1920s. The care it received over the years is evident in its phenomenal state of preservation. Aside from light overall toning/soiling, the ball remains in Excellent to Mint condition and features bold manufacturer's stampings. Babe Ruth single-signed baseballs that can be dated to the time of his historic, record-breaking 1927 season are the exception rather than the rule. The offered ball represents one such outstanding example, with the added appeal of having never before been seen in the hobby. Full LOAs from PSA/DNA, James Spence/JSA, Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication, and SGC Authentic. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++.
