Modestly graded example of one of Ruth's truly great early 1920s cards. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate series is one of the most substantial and overlooked sets from the 1920s. This is the key card from the set and one of Ruth's earliest cards featuring him with the Yankees. Graded PR-FR 1 by PSA, the card has a number of condition flaws, including slight color fading and minor tearing along the bottom edge. The reverse, which features advertising for "Neilson's Big League Bars," is boldly printed, with a square spot of paper loss along the right edge (when held horizontally), likely from tape removal. It is interesting to note that this card was produced utilizing the same design and image as the American Caramel E120 series. The V61 Neilson's Chocolate set is numbered (Ruth is #37). Issued one card per chocolate bar, Neilson's Chocolate cards are almost never found in high grade. Few cards of Ruth date from the early 1920s. This is a relatively affordable Babe Ruth card, dating from the early 1920s (an era in which few cards sets of any quality were issued). Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
