Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Bright, crisp, super high-grade example, with crystal-clear registration, virtually perfect borders, four sharp corners, and a flawless reverse. In 1955, at the age of twenty-three, the young Mantle had a breakout year. In 147 games he hit 37 home runs, batted .306, and lead the league with a slugging percentage of .611. This was also a breakout year for Bowman when they introduced their "television" set during a time when millions of homes across our great country were first being exposed to television broadcast. The flush-to-the-border wood-grain design of 1955 Bowman makes them very susceptible to corner and edge wear, with the result that extremely high-grade examples are very difficult to find. This is a spectacular card, ideal for a very high grade set or individual Mantle card collection. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,500+.
