Extremely attractive collection of ten different N172 Old Judges, each graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA) and consisting exclusively of players from the Denver team of the Western Association. This collection is also highlighted by an example of Dave Rowe (pose #393-2), which is listed among the scarce cards in the N172 series according to the "Old Judge Bible," The Photographic Baseball Cards of Goodwin & Company 1886-1890 by Jay Miller, Joe Gonsowski and Richard Masson, published 2008. These ten cards are new to the modern hobby, having been in the possession of a casual collector since the 1980s who decided that now is the right time to part with them. Many of these cards have strong images with great photo contrast. All cards are crisp and clean and do not suffer from condition flaws on the reverse, such as paper loss, album residue, or writing on the reverse, which often "come with the territory" with Old Judges. This collection consists of the following: Darnbrough (118-2, 1889 copyright, EX 60), Healy (219-1, 1888 copyright, VG/EX+ 55), Hoffman (228-1, 1889 copyright, VG 40), Hoffman (228-5, 1889 copyright, VG+ 45), Klusman (265-3, 1889 copyright, VG/EX 50), Klusman (265-4, 1889 copyright, EX 60), McClellan (304-3, 1887 copyright, VG/EX 50), McVey (321-3, Authentic), Rowe (393-2, 1889 copright, GOOD 30), and Silch (419-5, 1888 copyright, VG 40). This is an incredibly attractive collection of high-quality Old Judges, featuring exclusively desirable Denver players, that would be worthy additions to any N172 or nineteenth-century card collection. Total: 10 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+.
