Vintage photo of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, signed by the legendary "Wild West" figure in black fountain pen. Cody is pictured in formal attire as he sits upon his horse. His real-name signature, "W. F. Cody," is written vertically along the left border, while his famous nickname, "Buffalo Bill," appears vertically along the right border. Each signature has been boldly scripted and grades "10." The printing along the bottom white border of the photo reads "Colonel Cody/Buffalo Bill." Also noted in print along the bottom border is that this is photo number "1144B" in the series of Rotary Photo prints. While we cannot say for certain because we have not examined it out of frame, we are fairly certain this is a real-photo postcard (we have seen other real-photo postcards of Cody from the Rotary Photo series). The photo (3.25 x 5.5 inches), which is affixed to a black cardboard mount, appears to have a very slight trim along the right border and is otherwise in apparent Near Mint condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 9.75 x 11.5 inches. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
