Enormous panoramic team-photo display, measuring 32 x 15.5 inches, capturing thirty-eight members of the 1950 World Champion New York Yankees posing together in front of the grandstand at Yankee Stadium. Included here are Joe DiMaggio, manager Casey Stengel, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Phil Rizzuto, Johnny Mize, Bill Dickey (coach), and Billy Martin. The size and rarity of this photo is directly related to its special provenance. This piece was originally displayed in the old Yankee Stadium and is one of a number of similar-size Yankees team panoramas, dating as far back as the 1920s, that entered the hobby in 1973 when the stadium was completely renovated. The piece remains housed in its original black wooden frame that bears an engraved plaque along the base that reads "1950 World Champions." We have handled a few other examples of these Yankee Stadium team panoramas (various years) over the years, and all are striking in their presentation. 1950 marked the second of the club's eventual record five consecutive World Championships, making this an exceptional souvenir from the club's historic 1950s dynasty. The photo, which appears to be mounted upon heavy cardboard stock, displays a tiny abrasion in the upper border and is otherwise in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. The heavily worn recessed frame measures 36.25 x 19.5 inches. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
