Rare pennant promoting the Cuban Stars, circa 1920s. The maroon felt pennant features a dual design of a star and the outline of Cuba to the left, and the words "Cuban Stars" lettered to the right, all of which are painted in gold. This is the first example of this pennant we have ever offered and we can only recall having seen two or three others at auction in the past twenty years. The Cuban Stars, as the name implies, was made up of Cuban players who competed against Negro League clubs between the years 1907 and 1930. It should be noted that this pennant has been consigned by an extremely dedicated Cuban-baseball historian and is one of several Cuban/Mexican/Negro League lots originating from him in this auction. The pennant (28 inches), which is complete with tassels, is in Excellent to Mint condition overall, with just minimal crazing to the painted image and letters. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
