Exceedingly rare New York Giants pennant dating from the club's 1913 pennant-winning season. This is the first example of this pennant we have offered and we cannot recall having seen any others at auction in the past fifteen years. The graphics feature a generic Giants player holding a pennant reading "Champions" as he shakes hand with a gentleman in colonial garb. The Giants played the Philadelphia Athletics in the 1913 World Series and the colonial figure most likely represents Ben Franklin, who was, and still is, the most famous resident of the "City of Brotherly Love." This is one of several truly great early pennants in this auction, all from the same advanced collection, and each among the best pennants that we have ever offered. Ideal for display! The pennant (23.25 inches), which is complete with tassels, displays two approximate half-inch tears, one in the area of the upper left corner and the other in the area of the tip, just to the right of the "k" in "York." Neither tear has resulted in material loss and as such, are not noticeable except upon close inspection. It should also be noted that while the tassels appear to be original, they do not display the degree of fading seen on the pennant itself. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500.
