Each of these two rare children's pencil boxes has a beautiful full-color baseball illustration on its lid. One depicts a game in progress, while the other depicts nine members of a club in fielding or batting poses, with their respective positions listed below. Each case is designed with three separate compartments to hold pencils and other writing implements. Both cases display varying degrees of wear commensurate with their age and former use. The box featuring the game-in-progress scene is in Excellent condition overall. The other box displays slightly more wear, including chipping to the illustrated lid, and is in Very Good condition. This is an outstanding pair, with each in better condition than many of the other examples of these nineteenth-century classics we have seen. Total: 2 boxes. Dimensions: each 7.75 x 2 x 1.25 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
