In the history of baseball only sixteen pitchers have struck out 3,000 or more batters. This extraordinary ball features the signatures of fifteen members of that elite fraternity, and is missing only Walter Johnson, who died in 1946. As such, it is considered complete by modern standards. The fifteen signatures on this official National League (Giamatti) ball are those of Fergie Jenkins (sweet spot), Nolan Ryan, Don Sutton, Phil Niekro, Bob Gibson, Curt Schilling, Tom Seaver, Greg Maddux, Gaylord Perry, Bert Blyleven, Steve Carlton, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Pedro Martinez, and John Smoltz. All of the signatures have been scripted in varying shades of blue ink and grade "9" or "10." It should be noted that this is the only 3,000 Strikeout Club ball we have ever seen signed by all fifteen living members. As such it is a modern-day rarity and one of the most remarkable "theme" balls we have handled in recent times. The ball displays only the slightest hint of light age toning and remains in Near Mint condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
