Wilson "Official Pacific Coast League" (O'Connor) ball signed on a side panel by Ty Cobb in his customary green ink. In addition to simply signing the ball, Cobb has also personalized and dated it: "To Torie Goux from his friend Ty Cobb 5/12/59." Both the inscription and signature grade "8." Ty Cobb single-signed balls have always been highly prized by autograph collectors. Despite his reputation as a mean-spirited individual, Cobb was actually a very accommodating signer if given the opportunity. In his retirement years, especially as he got older, Cobb greatly enjoyed hearing from fans and it was customary for him to include a short personalization on all of the balls and photos he signed. The ball displays light toning, as well as a few tiny areas of light discoloration, and is in Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
