Two 1939 World's Fair Laurel Cards, each issued by the Academy of Sport, and signed, respectively by Paul Waner and Lloyd Waner. Paul Waner has signed in blue fountain pen ("7"), while his brother Lloyd has signed in black fountain pen ("8/9"). These cards were presented to each student who attended the daily sports clinics sponsored by the Academy of Sport at the 1939 World's Fair. The clinics featured many famous sports personalities of the day, who volunteered their time to instruct youngsters on the finer points of the game, and routinely signed these souvenir cards for attendees. Both cards (4.25 x 2.75 inches), which were each issued to "Guy Anselmo of Brooklyn, N.Y.," display a tiny semicircular impression and small area of surface-paper loss along the top front and reverse borders. The Lloyd Waner card also displays age toning. Each is in Excellent condition overall. It should be noted that these cards, along with the many other 1939 World's Fair Laurel Cards appearing in this auction, have been consigned by a family member of the original recipient. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+.
