Beautifully signed copy of one of the most desirable of all baseball books: a first edition of The Babe Ruth Story by Babe Ruth as told to Bob Considine (New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., 1948). This particular copy features a spectacular Babe Ruth signature (grading "10") scripted in blue fountain pen on the front flyleaf. The Babe Ruth Story was published just months prior to Ruth's death, a time when his failing health precluded him from honoring all of the many autograph requests he normally received. Thus, signed copies of this book are not only rare but also represent one of the most important and final items ever penned by the legendary "Sultan of Swat." For that reason they are highly prized by collectors today. The book displays moderate general wear to the cloth-covered boards and is otherwise in Excellent condition. Together with a dust jacket dating from a later printing (12th Printing, as noted on the interior) that is in Good to Very Good condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000+.
