Kansas City Royals American League Championship ring presented to pitcher Ken Brett in 1980. The 14K gold ring, manufactured by Jostens, features the team name, "Royals," displayed upon a single blue stone on the top. The lettering around the bezel reads "American League Champions 1980." One shank displays the name "Brett," a representation of Royals Stadium, and the number "25" (Brett's uniform number) engraved on an image of a baseball. The other shank features the Kansas City Royals and MLB logos, and the lettering "World Series 1980." Brett's name is engraved in script lettering on the interior, as are "14K," a Josten's insignia, and a copyright mark. Ken Brett, the older brother of star third baseman George Brett, only appeared in eight games with the Royals in 1980, but that was enough to earn him this highly prized ring commemorating the club's first pennant in franchise history. This is a particularly rare ring. In fact, it is only the second example of a 1980 Kansas City Royals American League Championship ring we have ever seen at auction and the first we have ever offered. The ring is accompanied by paperwork that indicates it was sent back to Jostens in 2004 (possibly for resizing, polishing, or cleaning etc.) and is in Excellent to Mint condition. Size: approximately 12. Weight: 30.8 grams. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $33,000
