Mickey Mantle from the 1964 Rawlings Glove Box series, which featured a ballplayer "card" on the side of each glove box produced by the company. Mantle is depicted in a fielding pose with Yankee Stadium in the background. Graded GOOD 2, this card presents at a level far superior to its assigned grade, which is entirely due to an upper left corner bend which is natural to the package-design card and corresponds to the fold in the glove box. Vibrant colors, four sharp corners, and entirely clean front and back. Many examples from this series only grade "Authentic" as they display irregular edges due to the hand-cut nature of the issue. This card is perfectly cut and would easily grade Near Mint if not for the ill-placed box seam responsible for the downgrade (which for grading purposes has been treated as a crease). This is an extremely attractive and unusual Mantle collectible, integral to the completion of any Mantle card "master set." Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,067
