One-sheet movie poster issued for the 1935 Three Stooges short Uncivil Warriors . This an extremely early Stooges one sheet, with Uncivil Warriors representing their eighth film for Columbia. It is also considered by most fans as one of their finest. The plot involves the trio as spies for the Northern army during the Civil War sent across enemy lines to gather information. They eventually find themselves in the mansion of a Southern general who is hosting a dinner party. After they are discovered, they make a run for it and hide in a "log" which turns out to be a Confederate cannon. The final scenes features Moe, Larry, and Curly being fired from the cannon and landing upon their commanding officer. Three Stooges one sheets dating from the team's "golden age" (1934-1947; those featuring Curly as part of the trio) are not only the most desirable of all paper from their films, but also the rarest. Prior to this extraordinary offering by REA (which will be conducted over a number of auctions), we have seen fewer than twenty different-titled Three Stooges one-sheets from this early era offered at public auction in the past fifteen years. Those dating from the 1930s are even more elusive, as we cannot recall having seen more than twelve different-titled Stooges one-sheets from that decade. To put those numbers in proper perspective, it should be noted that the Stooges starred in ninety-seven shorts in total during that fourteen-year period and forty-three between the years 1934 and 1939. The poster (27 x 41 inches) is linen-backed, during which process there was restoration to a number of small border tears, as well as the standard touch ups along the fold lines (a little more extensive in the top half of the poster). Excellent to Mint in appearance. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $56,288
