Brooklyn Dodgers home jersey issued to pitcher Bobby Darnell for the club's 1955 World Championship season. All 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers jerseys are highly prized by collectors, but none more so than those dating from the historic 1955 season. They are also exceedingly rare. This is one of only four 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers jerseys we can recall seeing at auction in the past fifteen years and the ONLY home example. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Dodgers" across the front and features the number "38" on the left breast and reverse. All letters and reverse numerals are appliquéd in blue felt. All front numerals are appliquéd in red felt. A "Rawlings Hall of Fame Flannel" label and adjacent "42" size tag appear in the collar. The name "Darnell" is chain-stitched in blue on the left front tail. Located on the interior left-front tail are a laundry tag and an adjacent strip tag reading "Set 1 1955." The jersey is all original, with no alterations, and displays light wear, including a few tiny red stains and holes on the front. It must be noted that this jersey was never worn by Darnell in 1955. Darnell played with the club briefly in 1954 and 1956, but he did not make the team in 1955. No other player wore number "38" in 1955, so after Darnell was cut, this jersey probably remained in storage for the entire season. Despite that, it remains an impeccable 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers home jersey, the likes of which are seldom, if ever, seen at auction. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,896
