Tremendous original oil on canvas painting of Alex Rodriguez by Dick Perez used by Topps as the central image for one of its three 2008 advertising posters promoting its Allen & Ginter card set. This is one of the premier modern-era Dick Perez artworks, all the more so because of its prominent use by Topps. Signed by the artist in the lower right. Topps"™ 2008 Allen & Ginter set paid homage to the famed 1888 tobacco issue and all of the cards were produced in the artistic style of the original Allen & Ginter cards. In keeping with that theme, Rodriguez is depicted in a generic 1880s baseball uniform as he strikes a typical batting pose. The finished poster, which also featured pictures of cards in the set, along with advertising text, was only issued to dealers and retail stores for promotion of the set. This is a magnificent original painting, linking two eras separated by a century. This piece is one of three larger Dick Perez paintings (each oil on canvas) commissioned by Topps for use in its 2008 advertising posters promoting its Allen & Ginter set. Of those three posters, the one picturing Rodriguez was the only poster that also featured the thirty cards in the set designed by Perez. Dimensions: 20 x 30 inches. Mint condition.
