Post-1900 Baseball Memorabilia
Sterling silver ring, issued to a front-office employe, in commemoration of the Tampa Bay Rays 2008 American League Championship. This is a particularly interesting ring and quite rare as it is a front office non-player version (it is our understanding that the team actually made at least three different versions of the ring and this employee received the lower-cost silver version, but still with the employee's name as part of the design). The front features the team name Rays within a baseball-path design, set upon a blue stone. A number of small cubic zirconia "diamonds" are inlaid within the base-path design. The bezel is lettered "American League Champions 2008." The left shank features the American League logo and is lettered "A. L. East Champs/1st Pennant." The right shank displays the recipient's last name "McGahan," the initials "TB," and the club's 2008 record, "97-65." Engraved on the interior band are "Sterl" (for sterling silver) and "9=8" (manager Joe Madden told his team at the beginning of the season that 9 players playing for 9 innings every game equals one of the 8 playoff teams at the end of the year). There is some tarnishing, otherwise in Near Mint condition. Accompanied by its original presentation box. Size: approximately 10. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $948
