Post-1900 Baseball Memorabilia
During his playing career, Jackie Robinson was featured on four Brooklyn Dodgers pennants, all of which are extremely rare today. The offered example, however, is almost certainly the earliest issue, as it pictures Robinson in action as a first baseman. Robinson only regularly started at first base during his 1947 rookie season, indicating that this pennant was issued either in 1947 or possibly the year after. The colorful green-felt pennant pictures Robinson stretching for a ball at first base, with his name displayed in script lettering below his image. "Dodgers" is printed in large white letters to the right of his image. The pennant (22.5 inches) displays moderate wear, including slight fading to the green-colored felt, tack holes in the tip and each corner, slight loosening to the stitching of the white border, light crazing to the painted letters and image, and one missing tassel. In Very Good condition overall but, as can easily be seen, displays beautifully. This is a particularly rare pennant and the very first example of this highly desirable Robinson pennant we have ever offered. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $711
