Exceedingly rare ticket stub ("Lower Res. Seat") to the third and final playoff game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants held at the Polo Grounds on Wednesday, October 3, 1951. This was the game in which Bobby Thomson hit one of the most dramatic home runs in baseball history: a three-run game-winning shot in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Giants an improbable 5-4 win and the pennant. That famous home run, known today as "The Shot Heard Round The World," was further immortalized by Giants radio announcer Russ Hodges' unforgettable call, made famous by the repeated refrain, "the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant, the Giants win the pennant..." This is one of only a few tickets from that historic game that we have ever seen and just the second we have ever offered (the other, a full proof ticket, sold for $2,133 in our April 2014 auction). The ticket stub (1.5 x 3.25 inches) displays a number of light creases throughout. Although technically in Very Good condition, many of the creases are barely noticeable and the ticket retains an Excellent overall appearance. This is truly one of the most significant tickets of the postwar era and one that is absent from even the most advanced collections. SOLD FOR $4,500
