Babe Ruth Christmas card, with original mailing envelope, and vintage news photo, each dating to the early 1930s. 1) The Christmas card (5.5 x 8 inches, folded) features a winter scene on the front and the preprinted names of both Claire and Babe Ruth on the interior. The card is accompanied by its original mailing envelope, postmarked December 18, 1930, addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. Fred Heimach." At the base of the envelope is the written notation "Brooklyn Base Ball Player." Heimach was indeed with Brooklyn at the time of this mailing. Prior to joining Brooklyn for the 1930 season, Heimach was a teammate of Ruth's on the Yankees in 1928 and 1929. The card is in Very Good condition overall, with a few edge tears and a number of light creases throughout. The envelope is in Fair to Good condition overall. 2) The vintage Acme news photo (6 x 8 inches) pictures Ruth sitting next to the batting cage after a practice at Yankee Stadium, just prior to the 1932 World Series. The original paper news caption, dated 9/17/32, remains affixed to the reverse. There is also an "N. E. A. Ref. Dept" credit stamp on the reverse that is dated "Sep 22 1932." Vg-Ex, with a few minor creases throughout. Total: 2 items (Christmas card and photo).
