Official National League (Feeney) ball signed in blue ink (grading "9") by Roger Maris. This is one of eight Roger Maris single-signed balls purchased at auction by our consignor (as a single lot) in 2002, all of which came with the special provenance of originating from the personal collection of Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda. According to the original auction description, Maris signed the eight balls for Lasorda in 1980. (The collection of eight balls was just one of many lots sold in that auction from the Tommy Lasorda Collection.) Roger Maris is one of the most desirable of all non-Hall of Fame signatures, especially alone on a baseball. Unfortunately for collectors, Maris passed just prior to the "signing-show boom," thus resulting in the rarity of Maris singles in the hobby today. Maris has long been a favorite of forgers. With a limited supply and high demand, it"™s no wonder that Maris"™ signature is one of the most commonly forged of all modern-era stars. Given the large number of problem "Maris" balls circulating in the marketplace today, an authentic Maris ball such as this, with outstanding provenance no less, is especially desirable. The ball displays moderate age toning throughout and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. SOLD FOR $3,900
