Outstanding pair of extremely rare Uncle Jacks Candy cards of Hall of Famers Lefty Grove (Philadelphia Athletics) and Bill Terry (New York Giants). Uncle Jacks are one of the rarer and lesser-known candy issues of the early 1930s. Like Goudey and National Chicle, Uncle Jacks was based in New England. The company issued only one thirty-card set. Each blank-backed card in the set was issued in red or blue duotone. Cards were sold in see-through wax-paper packs with one card, a slab of gum, and a coupon per pack. The coupon featured advertising for Uncle Jacks and information about a contest to attend the 1933 World Series. The offered pair of cards is extremely attractive despite their modest SGC-assigned grades (submitted by REA from an old-time collection). The Grove, which grades GOOD 30, features the pitcher in a wind-up pose against a red backround. Near-perfect centering, a crisp image, and even wear to the corners. Downgraded due to a horizontal crease at the bottom of the card, as well as a lighter vertical crease visible only from the reverse. The Terry, which grades VG 40, features the slugger in a follow-through swinging pose against a vibrant purple background. Perfectly centered, with a crisp image, light corner wear, and a small crease in the lower right corner. The blank reverse displays an outline from where the gum was positioned as well as a light horizontal crease visible only from the reverse. Very attractive pair of Hall of Famers from this very rare and unusual 1930s set. Total: 2 cards. SOLD FOR $1,440
