Original 1962 Topps "Civil War News" one-cent wax pack which, to the best of our knowledge, may be a newly discovered method of issue for this popular nonsport set. It is well known that "Civil War News" cards were issued in five-cent wax packs, as well as twelve-card cello packs, and thirty-six card rack packs. Many years ago The Topps Vault offered a sheet of wrapper proofs for a one-cent "Civil War News" pack, but the design differed very slightly from that of the offered pack. Aside from the sole sheet offered for sale, our research did not turn up any reference to a final production one-cent pack, which makes the offered back especially interesting. This is clearly an extreme rarity. The pack features a bright yellow wrapper with bold red and black print announcing "Civil War bubble gum" on front flanked by images of Union and Confederate soldiers. The reverse features traditional Topps manufacturing information as well as an advertisement for Bazooka Bubble Gum. The pack remains in outstanding condition with the long horizontal seal loosened and the two vertical seals intact. A look inside through the horizontal seal reveals a single card and a broken stick of gum. It is otherwise undisturbed and appears essentially the same as it no doubt did more than fifty years ago. This is a fascinating pack that may be unique and would make a tremendous addition to any unopened-pack or nonsport collection. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,422
