Graded NM 7 by PSA. Highest-graded example! Extraordinary high-grade example of Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown from the E96 Philadelphia Caramel series. This is the only example of Brown graded at this level by PSA (with none higher) and in fact is one of only eight E96 examples (of any subject) to grade NM 7 out of 580 cards evaluated to date (also with none higher; no E96 has ever graded NM-MT). The E96 set, issued by Philadelphia Caramel in 1910, is one of the most popular and colorful of all "E" card issues and is the follow-up to the E95 Philadelphia issue of the previous year. Chicago Cubs pitcher Mordecai Brown is one of eight Hall of Famers featured in the E96 set and is portrayed in a classic follow-through pose set against a bold red background. As suggested by its impressive PSA grade, the offered example is in tremendous condition, especially compared to most other caramel cards, with a crisp, clean image, bold colors, bright white borders, and four strong corners displaying only slight traces of wear. Centered very slightly to the bottom. The reverse is also spectacularly clean, with a boldly printed red checklist and no signs of caramel staining. This is an outstanding ultra high-grade example of one of the key cards in the set featuring Hall of Famer Mordecai Brown. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $4,500. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $9,480.00
