The very best of all Jackie Robinson pennants! This multicolor souvenir pennant features Jackie Robinson in a batting pose with the caption "Jackie Robinson 1st Base" across his chest. To the right of the illustration, the pennant reads "Brooklyn Dodgers" in white block lettering. This is widely recognized as the most desirable of all Robinson pennants, not just because of its exceptionally appealing design and rarity, but also because it can be dated to 1947 as that is the only year Robinson played first base for the Dodgers. This is an extremely significant Jackie Robinson display piece dating from his historic first year in the Major Leagues. It is also the ONLY example we have ever seen in forty years! This pennant was sold at REA in 2004 (Lot 65, at that time selling for $1,725) and has been consigned to this auction from the original consignor. This is one of the best of all vintage Jackie Robinson display pieces of any type. It is one of the best baseball pennants from any era, and would be a worthy addition and highlight in even the most advanced world-class collection. The pennant exhibits some very minor general wear and has a small "bite" at the tip, but has an overall spectacular Excellent appearance. Length: 28 inches. Beautifully mounted and framed to total dimensions of 38 x 17 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $5,036.25
