Red-stitched baseball (manufacturer's stampings faded beyond legibility) signed in blue ink by the following twenty-eight members of the 1960 American League Champion New York Yankees: Mantle (sweet spot, clubhouse signature), Berra (sweet spot), Maris, Ford, Howard, Kubek, McDougald, Boyer, Coates, Terry, Ditmar, Kipp, Valo, Gabler, Hadley, Lopez, Blanchard, Turley, Shantz, James, Skowron, Richardson, Hunt, Duren, DeMaestri, Maas, Short, and Carey. Signatures range from "6" to "8," averaging "7." The Yankees outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 57-27 in the 1960 World Series, but lost the championship in seven games on Bill Mazeroski's dramatic ninth-inning, walk-off home run in Game 7. 1960 also marked the end of manager Casey Stengel's remarkable twelve-year tenure with the club, a span that produced ten pennants and seven World Championships. Aside from the faded manufacturer's stampings the ball remains in remarkably strong Excellent to Mint condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $592.50
