Outstanding collection of five vintage Popeye tin windup toys, two of which are accompanied by their original boxes; four were produced by Louis Marx & Co. and one by J. Chen & Co. All of the figures display wear commensurate with their age and former use, include Popeye's pipe (commonly missing), and all are in working order, complete with their original windup keys. 1) "Barrel Walking Toy" #258 by Chein. Excellent condition. 7 inches high. Accompanied by its original box (3.25 x 3.25 x 7.5 inches). The top lid is partially detached; otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. 2) "Walking Popeye" by Marx. Popeye carrying two bird cages. Includes pipe. Moderate-to-heavy wear. Very Good condition. Accompanied by its original box. The box displays a few areas of restoration along the top and is otherwise in Very Good condition, with minor abrasions, light creasing, and a number of small stains. 8.5 inches high. 3) "Popeye Express" by Marx. Popeye pushing a wheelbarrow holding a steamer trunk, atop of which is a parrot. Very Good to Excellent condition. 8.5 inches high; 9 inches long. 4) "Popeye and Olive Oyl Rooftop Dancer" by Marx. Popeye dances on the roof while Olive Oyl plays the accordion. Includes Olive Oyl's original wire bun. Very Good to Excellent condition. 9.5 inches high; 5 inches long. 5) "Popeye the Pilot" by Marx. 1935 variation. The rear tail fin appears to have been replaced. Very Good condition. 5.5 inches high; 9 inches long. Total: 5 toys (2 with their original boxes). Reserve $500. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,659
