Official United States land grant, dated November 4, 1814, signed by James Madison (1751-1836), fourth President of the United States. The document, which is both printed and handwritten, grants to George Hester a tract of land located in Cincinnati, Ohio. It has been signed in black ink (grading "9/10") by James Madison as President and by the Commissioner of the General Land Office. The official paper seal of the General Land Office (faded) remains affixed in the lower left corner. The document (13.5 x 8.5 inches) displays horizontal and vertical folds, as well as slightly irregular borders, and is in Excellent condition overall. Mounted (most likely be means of adhesive) and matted together with an engraved likeness of Madison. Total dimensions: 28.75 x 16 inches. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
