Extraordinary unopened pack of PX3 Double Header Buttons, issued by Gum, Inc., of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Even the wrapper for this issue is extremely rare and only a few examples are known. An unopened pack is unprecedented. This is very likely the only surviving unopened pack of Double Headers in existence. The multicolor pack (3 x 1.5 inches) pictures illustrations of Al Simmons and Chuck Klein on the front and advises collectors to "Put 1 and 2 together and make a Double Header." The Double Header Buttons are very similar in appearance to pins but are actually metal discs of various colors that feature portraits of ballplayers. Forty-three different players are known. Inside the unopened pack are two Double Header Buttons and a piece of gum. The wrapper has a little soiling but is otherwise in Excellent condition. The two enclosed discs are presumably in Mint condition. This pack originally appeared as Lot 1521 in REA's May 2009 auction (it was one of the highlights from perhaps the greatest unopened find in the history of card collecting), where it realized a final sales price of $6,463. Our consignor received this item in trade directly from the original purchaser. We believe this is the only unopened pack in existence! Reserve $1,000. Estimate $3,000++. SOLD FOR $2,644
