Post-1900 Baseball Memorabilia
Classic figural baseball radio produced in the early 1940s in the design of an "Official League Baseball." No comprehensive display of baseball-influenced design is complete without this popular standard. The speakers reside inside of the ball and the tuning and volume knobs are on either side. Ideally, the radio is accompanied by an original 1941 Associated Press news photo (9 x 7 inches; Vg-Ex) picturing Dodgers pitcher Kirby Higbe lying in his hospital bed listening to the ball game on this very model radio! The radio displays moderate surface wear, including a few small abrasions and scratches. The original electrical wire is badly frayed and, as is always the case with these early models, repair by an electrician will be necessary for actual use. Of course, as a display piece, the radio retains all of its vintage charm and is perfect for decoration in either home or office. In Very Good condition overall. Total 2 items (baseball figural radio and 1941 original photo). Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $1,880
