Prewar Baseball - 1930s and 1940s Cards
Collection of twenty-five (of the 50 in the set) 1936 R312 premium baseball players issued by National Chicle, each graded and encapsulated by PSA or SGC. This full-color (4 x 5-3/8 inches) premium set is comprised of twenty-five individual player portraits, fourteen multiplayer cards, and eleven in-action photos. The beautiful, rich pastel colors of R312 premiums make them one of the most striking and distinctive of all 1930s issues. Considering how substantial they are, R312 premiums have received very little attention from collectors, in part due to the fact that they are larger than standard cards, and therefore have only recently begun to be encapsulated by grading services, and the fact that they are blank-backed with no identification of the issuer. A case could be made that they represent one of the best values among all 1930s issues. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards checklist. PSA condition report: Two EX-MT 6: #4 Bell/Bonura and 37 Lopez (HOF). Seven EX 5: #3 Bejma/Hemsley, 7 Bordagaray/Earnshaw, 10 Hartnett/Herman/Klein/etc. (HOF), 12 Cochrane (HOF), 26 Traynor (HOF), 27 Gomez (HOF), and 49 Waners (HOF). Six VG-EX 4: #29 Grove/Mack (HOF), 32 Hartnett/Cochrane (HOF), 36 Lombardi (HOF), 38 Martin, 43 Ruffing (HOF), and 45 Stengel (HOF). One VG 3: #19 Dickey (HOF). SGC condition report: Two EX/NM 80: #15 Cronin/Harris (HOF) and 31 Harder. Two EX 60: #25 Frey and 41 Parmelee. Five VG/EX 50: #1 Allen, 18 Cuyler/Speaker (HOF), 35 Hornsby (HOF), 44 Schott, and 47 Swift. It is not surprising that many of the premiums in this collection have an even stronger appearance than their already impressive grades, as R312s tend to be harshly graded by PSA and SGC. This is an extremely attractive high-grade collection of these classic 1930s premiums. Total 25 premiums. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115
