Outstanding high-grade partial set of 1934 R320 Goudey Gum consisting of 62 different of the 96 cards in the set, including both Lou Gehrigs and twenty (of the 24 in the set) very scarce high numbers (#73-96). This is an original "childhood" collection, assembled in 1934 and saved by the family of the original owner. We were so impressed with the collection and the fact that these cards have remained literally untouched since the 1930s that, for the convenience of potential bidders, we have selected a very significant number of cards (43 of the 62 cards, a far greater percentage than normal) to be graded and encapsulated by PSA. The PSA grades are as follows: One NM-MT 8: #79 High #. Seven NM+ 7.5: #69, 72, 81 High #, 87 High #, 88 High #, 89 High #, and 90 Cuyler (HOF). Nine NM 7: #44, 47, 60, 66, 68, 76 High #, 78 High #, 82 High #, and 91 High #. Six EX-MT+ 6.5: #56, 71, 73 High #, 77 High #, 84 High #, and 85 High #. Twelve EX-MT 6: #31, 33, 36, 42, 45, 46, 48, 51, 54, 63, 64, and 65. Three EX+ 5.5: #28, 35 Lombardi (HOF), and 53. Three EX 5: #50, 52, and 86 High #. One VG-EX+ 4.5: #38. One GOOD 2: #61 Gehrig (All GOOD cards should look this great! This is a beautiful card with brilliant colors. The corners show light, even wear. The reverse of the card is also extremely clean, with bold green text. Downgraded from Ex-Mt by PSA due to a horizontal crease below Gehrig's arm and a crease near the upper left corner. This is an impressive card with much stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the technically-accurate PSA assigned grade, sharing almost all of the qualities of a much higher-grade example). The balance of the cards grade as follows: seven cards are Ex (#59, 62 Greenberg, 74 High #, 75 High #, 80 High #, 83 High #, 92 High #), three Vg-Ex (#58, 67, 70), five Vg (#29, 43, 49, 55, 57), and four lesser (#18 Manush, 37 Gehrig, 41, 93 High #). This is a very attractive partial set of this classic Goudey issue, with numerous highlights including both Lou Gehrigs, many high-grade cards, and twenty scarce high-number series cards. The total SMR value for the forty-three PSA-graded cards (not including the nineteen ungraded cards) is $13,485. Total 62 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $15,275
