Collection of ten very crisp, high-grade 1948 Bowman basketball cards, including the rookie card of Hall of Famer Red Holzman, each graded and encapsulated by PSA or SGC: Four PSA NM-MT 8: #6 Feerick, 11 Basketball Play, 16 Hertzberg, and 32 Holzman RC (OC). Six SGC NM 84: #3 Bishop, 5 Basketball Play, 25 Senesky, 26 Brookfield (PSA NM 7), 31 Gilmur, and 33 Smiley. The 1948 Bowman Basketball series is particularly significant as this was the first set ever issued devoted exclusively to basketball. This 1948 issue was the only basketball set Bowman ever produced. Cards from this set are extremely hard to find in high grade in part because these cards (like 1949 Bowman baseball) often naturally have soft corners due to the quality of the paper stock on which they were printed. This is a small but very impressive high-grade collection of this difficult 1940s basketball card issue, which could provide upgrades, serve as a foundation collection, or contribute to the assembly of an extremely high quality complete set. The equivalent SMR value for the group (not including Holzman's rookie card, which is qualified) is $1,185. Total 10 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $823
