Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Highest-graded example! By far the finest example in existence of one of Ty Cobb's - and all of card collecting's - most spectacular cards. Extraordinary Near Mint to Mint example of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, the key card from the extremely rare 25-card D304 Brunners Butter Krust brand bread (General Baking Co.) series. This is one of Ty Cobb's rarest and most striking cards. Issued by a bakery in the Buffalo, New York, area, these cards are known with five different back styles (Brunners, Butter Krust, General Baking Co., Weber Bakery, and Martens Bakery). Similar in design to tobacco and candy cards of the era, Brunners measure slightly larger than T206s, at 1.75 x 2.5 inches, and are actually considerably rarer than most 1910-era "E" and "T" card issues. The fronts feature very attractive full-color illustrations, each of which is unique to this issue. In recent years collectors have shown a growing appreciation for the mystique of the rarest vintage-card issues. D304s certainly fall into this category, and have always been appreciated but are rarely offered. D304 sets were issued in 1911, 1912, 1913, and 1914. This is an ultra high-grade card, with vibrant colors, flawless registration, perfectly bright and clean, both front and back, and with only the slightest touch of wear visible only under magnification to the four sharp corners. Centered a hint towards the bottom border with a slight natural diamond cut (a positive in the view of many as this is a sign of a completely untampered-with original card). The colors are unimprovable. Cobb's batting image contrasts sharply against the bright gold background. The back of the card is flawlessly clean, features advertising for Brunners Butter-Krust brand bread, and is boldly printed in green. The D304 Brunners Cobb is what card collecting is all about. This is a miracle high-grade example of one of card collecting's great and most appealing classic cards. A total of only seven D304 Ty Cobb examples have ever been graded in the entire history of PSA (and the next highest graded example is a full three grades lower). This is a spectacular ultra high-grade example, by far the very best we have ever seen or ever hope to see, of one of Ty Cobb"™s rarest and most majestic cards. Reserve $25,000. Estimate (open).
