New York Yankees payroll check, dated December 14, 1973 and made out by hand to "Thurman Munson," endorsed by Munson on the reverse. The check has been made out in the amount of $1,740.54 and has been signed "Thurman Munson" in blue ink ("9/10") on the reverse. Thurman Munson signed items are quite scarce today, due in large part to his untimely death in 1979. Official New York Yankees documents signed by Munson are even more elusive; and a signed payroll check such as this represents one of the rarest and most desirable of all Yankee-related signed items for the legendary catcher. In fact, we would not be surprised if a Munson signed Yankee payroll check is actually rarer than a Ruth signed Yankee payroll check. The check (7.5 x 3.5 inches) displays normal bank cancellation stamps, as well as a few small areas of surface paper loss on the reverse (not affecting the signature).
