Official American League (Harridge) ball signed by Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker. The legendary "Grey Eagle" has boldly scripted his name in blue ink across the sweet spot, with the signature grading a strong "9." Although Speaker was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937, he passed away (1958) long before collecting Hall of Famers on single-signed baseballs became widely recognized as the ideal standard. For that reason high-grade Speaker single-signed balls are particularly rare. This example is outstanding with regard to the signature and ranks among the finest we have ever handled. Based upon its stampings, this ball dates to the 1940-1945 manufacturing period and was very likely signed by Speaker during that six-year period. Tris Speaker is one of the acknowledged "giants" of the game and this ball would be a worthy and significant addition to even the most most advanced Hall of Fame single-signed baseball collection. The ball displays minor surface wear and is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $6,463
