Presented are four strip cards from three different "W" issues dating from 1919 to 1926, all graded by SGC, in unusually high-grade, including a W514 Joe Jackson. The early 1920s presented few baseball card sets for youngsters to collect, and strip cards were both the most prominent and most affordable cards of the era. The collection consists of the following: 1) W514 #15 Joe Jackson (VG-EX 50, almost perfectly centered; downgraded due to a couple of very tiny dents on the left border, but card is otherwise Ex-Mt). This is a very significant card, issued at the very time the Black Sox scandal was unfolding before the public's eyes. It is also one of the few cards of Joe Jackson dating from his playing days. 2) W515 #5 Ed Rommell (NM/MT+ 92). 3-4) W512 #3 Ty Cobb (EX/NM 80, centered slightly to the right), and #9 Rogers Hornsby (Giants team variation, NM 84, centered towards the bottom right border, with four sharp corners). These classic 1920s strip card issues represent a particularly outstanding value in comparison to other card sets of the era. Total 4 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,645
