Addendum: Even though this ring bears the correct manufacturer's markings engraved on the interior, we believe this to be a replica of Roger Staubach's 1977 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl XII ring and not a salesman's sample as originally described.

This Dallas Cowboys salesman's sample Super Bowl ring, produced in commemoration of the team's 1977 World Championship season, is identical in design to the one issued to the team's Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach but is produced from different materials. The front of the sterling silver ring, manufactured by Jostens, features two faux diamonds, each set upon an individual blue stone designed in the shape of a star. Twenty-two faux diamonds surround the star. The ring's bezel reads "Dallas Cowboys - World Champions." The right shank features a depiction of the team's helmet, the name "Staubach," his uniform number, "12," and four stars, engraved, respectively, with the years, "1970," "1971," "1975," and "1977" (the years they were NFC Champions). The left shank displays the year "1977," the words "Super Bowl XII," a depiction of the Lombardi Trophy, and the score of the game, "27-10." "AST - Balfour" is engraved on the interior band. Super Bowl XII, held on January 15, 1978, in New Orleans, marked the second and final Super Bowl victory of Roger Staubach's illustrious career. " The Cowboys made short work of the Denver Bronco's vaunted "Orange Crush" defense that day, winning their second second Super Bowl in franchise history by a score of 27-10. Staubach completed 17 of 25 passes for 183 yards and one touchdown in a game that was dominated by the Dallas defense. Staubach would lead Dallas to one more Super Bowl appearance prior to his retirement in 1979. This ring and the 1971 Staubach sample ring that is offered as a separate lot are produced in silver. This is very unusual and these are the only rings of this type that we have seen or heard of that were made of silver. Sample rings are typically made of Ultrium or celestrium, suggesting the possibility that these are prototypes, unusual samples, or were specially produced at great expense for some other purpose. Salesman's sample rings are rare because they are seriously expensive sales tools which, understandably, are not given away as promotional gifts. They are very popular with collectors when available, and represent a relatively affordable alternative to the virtually identical rings owned by the players, which would be many times more expensive if available. Size: approximately 11. The is in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,293
