Exceptional high-grade near-complete set featuring eleven of the thirteen cards from the 1947 Bond Bread series, one of the most historically significant baseball-card sets ever issued. Missing only two cards for completion: #1 (awaiting pitch) and #9 (running to catch ball). This set was issued in 1947 to commemorate Robinson's historic shattering of the color barrier. Each card in the set features Jackie Robinson. The cards were regionally distributed only in the New York area, and were primarily available in black neighborhoods. One card was packaged with each loaf of Bond Bread. This collection of eleven cards (of the thirteen cards which comprise the set) represents a very substantial foundation upon which to build a complete high-grade set. Only a few complete sets of this extremely rare issue have ever been assembled. All eleven cards have been encapsulated and graded by PSA: #2 batting, white sleeves (EX-MT 6), 3 batting, no sleeves (EX-MT 6), 4 leaping, scoreboard (NM 7), 5 leaping, no scoreboard (EX 5), 6 portrait, facsimile autograph (NM+ 7.5), 7 portrait, glove in air (EX 5), 8 running down baseline (VG-EX+ 4.5), 10 sliding (EX-MT 6), 11 stretching for throw, ball visible (EX 5), 12 stretching for throw, no ball visible (NM 7), 13 throwing (EX 5).
