Three different extremely high grade 1952 Topps high numbers. All three are graded NM-MT 8 by PSA: #3 Hank Thompson (black back, none graded higher by PSA), 165 Eddie Kazak (only one graded higher), and 174 Clarence Marshall (only one graded higher). Card #3 Hank Thompson is a particularly significant condition rarity in the 1952 Topps set. Like more well known condition rarities #1 Pafko and #2 Runnels, card #3 also tended to gravitate toward the top of stacks of cards organized by number, and in the process tended to experience more wear than other cards as a result. The PSA population report confirms the extreme rarity of this early low-number card in such extraordinary high-grade. The 1952 Topps set is legendary for being the premier gum card set of the 1950 era.
