Presented is an extraordinary example of one of the rarest and most desirable of all baseball pennants: the 1922 New York Giants team portrait pennant. This incredible pennant commemorates the New York Giants' 1922 pennant-winning season. It is actually is one of a two-pennant set. We have also seen a match featuring the 1922 Yankees, who were the American League champs in 1922, strongly suggesting the possibility that these pennants may have been sold at the 1922 World Series. The brownish-tan pennant features overlapping colorful player portraits of sixteen team members, including manager John McGraw and Casey Stengel, and is lettered "Giants - National League Pennant Winners - 1922." This is one of the most substantial and attractive team pennants ever issued and has long been a favorite among collectors. Interestingly, the offered piece is unique in that the reverse (which is blank on other known examples) commemorates Armistice Day, which is now known as Veteran's Day. The words "Armistice Day" are lettered in white alongside a stirring military illustration of soldiers on the battlefield. While we have only seen two other examples of this classic baseball pennant over the years, this is the first of these few that we have ever seen featuring a dual-sided display. The pennant has two small tack holes on the left border and four more along the tip, otherwise it remains in Excellent condition overall, with only minor wear and a few missing stitches along the white felt trim.
