Addendum: In our catalog this jersey was described as having been graded A10 by MEARS. That is incorrect. The sleeve patch has been perfectly resewn onto the sleeve with an original patch, thus resulting in a half-point deduction. The correct grade for this jersey is A9.5 Outstanding Cleveland Indians home jersey worn by outfielder Hank Edwards in 1947. Graded A9.5 by MEARS. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Indians" across the front and features the number "32" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in red on navy felt. A "Smiling Indian" patch adorns the left sleeve. "Edwards" is chain-stitched in navy upon a white strip tag in the collar. Also located in the collar is a "Wilson" label and adjacent "44" size tag. The year, "47," is chain-stitched in navy on the left front tail. The sleeve patch has been restored (with an original patch), otherwise the garment is original, with no other alterations. Light wear is displayed throughout. Strictly in terms of aesthetics, this is one of the finest 1940s-era jerseys we have ever offered. There is no evidence of fading to the letters, numerals, or shell, and the jersey appears much as it did when issued to Edwards in 1947. Magnificent in all respects and perfect for display. Edwards played in 108 games in 1947, hitting 15 home runs, and driving in 59 runs while maintaining a .260 batting average. Edwards shared outfield responsibilities with Larry Doby during his historic first season in the Major Leagues, wearing this very jersey. Graded A9.5 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with a half point deducted for the restoration of the sleeve patch). This is one of only four 1940s Cleveland Indians jerseys listed in the MEARS census and the only example from 1947.
