The 1919 Cincinnati Reds remain one of baseball"™s most memorable clubs due to their World Series association with the Chicago White Sox, baseball"™s most infamous club. Offered here is a large and desirable 1919 Cincinnati Reds signature collection featuring fourteen different players. Ideally, two of the signatures are in the form of endorsements on 1920 Cincinnati Reds payroll checks. Unless otherwise noted, all of the signatures are penned in blue or black ink (grading "9/10") on unlined 3 x 5-inch index cards. 1-2) Edd Roush (two examples). 3) Ray Fisher. 4) Heine Groh. 5) Dolf Luque (on a 4.5 x 1.5-inch cut together with a signature of Hal Schumacher, from an autograph album page; Bill Terry and Al Cuccinello's signatures are on the reverse). 6) Dutch Ruether. 7) Rube Bressler, 8) Pat Duncan (on a 3 x 1-inch cut). 9) Larry Kopf (personalized "To Rick"). 10) Greasy Neale (includes the salutation "Good Luck"). 11) Jimmy Smith (includes the salutation "Best Regards"). 12) Jimmy Ring (on a cachet postmarked 7/1/61). 13-14) Bill Zitzmann (two examples, one on a cachet postmarked 4/17/71). 15) Ivy Wingo (in black fountain pen on an Official National League [Frick] ball, "6/7," Vg). 16) "Pat" Duncan (on a Cincinnati Reds payroll check, dated 6/3/20, endorsed "Louis B. Duncan" on the reverse, 8.5 x 3.5 inches). 17) Hod Eller (on a Cincinnati Reds payroll check, dated 5/3/20, endorsed "H. O. Eller" on the reverse, "8," 8.5 x 3.5 inches). Both payroll checks display normal bank cancellation stamps and perforations. The Duncan check has a small corner tear (paper loss) that affects the "L" in Duncan"™s signature on the reverse.
