Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Extremely crisp, super high grade example of this key prewar card featuring Ted Williams in his rookie season. The 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams rookie has always been recognized as one of vintage-card collecting's great classics. This is a very strong example. The card displays four sharp corners and a crystal clear image featuring the "Splendid Splinter" in his familiar swing-thru pose, and is centered slightly to the right. The reverse of the card is clean and boldly printed, with a single very tiny pinpoint spot (possibly natural to the paper stock and mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy). It is fascinating to note that the text on the back of this rookie card reports that Ted "has a great future according to experts." One of the key cards from the 1939 Play Ball set and one of the most popular cards of the era. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
