Graded VG 40 by SGC. Exceptionally strong and attractive E105 Mello-Mint example of Christy Mathewson with bright, crisp colors. Perfectly clean both front and back, with even wear to the slightly rounded corners, and also very well centered (approximately 55/45 top to bottom centering when held horizontally as intended). The Mello-Mint advertisement on the back is perfectly centered and is boldly printed in green against a brilliant off-white background. The slightest hint of a light surface wrinkle on Mathewson"™s left shoulder is apparently responsible for this card not receiving a grade of VG-EX by SGC. We think SGC has been too hard on this card; we grade this card Vg-Ex. All Mello-Mint cards are extremely rare. Caramel cards in general, of course, are rarely found in high grade, and this is especially so with Mello-Mints. Because they are printed on such thin stock they are almost always found crinkled or creased. This is an extremely attractive and (for this issue) very high-grade example of one of Christy Mathewson"™s rarest and most beautiful cards, and an exceptional example of one of the key Hall of Famers in the Mello-Mint set.
