Addendum: Six of the thirty-seven "Tarzan and the Crystal Vault of Isis" cards in this lot are from the Canadian version of the set (with the English/French bilingual text on the back). The Canadian Tarzan cards are considered less valuable and desirable the American version Schutter-Johnson Tarzan cards. Near-complete set includes thirty-seven (out of 50) of the extremely rare "Tarzan and the Crystal Vault of Isis" cards, issued by Schutter-Johnson Candy in one-cent packages of "Tarzan of the Apes Candy." The set is missing the following thirteen cards for completion: #1-5, 11, 22, 23, 28, 29, 34, 47, and 50. R147 Tarzan cards have always been recognized as one of the rarest and most highly regarded sets of the 1930s. This is a mixed-grade near-complete set with twenty-five cards ranging from Vg to Ex condition (averaging Vg-Ex overall), and twelve cards in slightly lesser condition (mostly Gd). The extreme scarcity of this set is probably due in part to the fact that Schutter-Johnson Candy was such a small company. However, Schutter-Johnson made every effort to impress by creating this exceptionally high quality card issue, which among all the sport and non sport sets they ever produced is unquestionably their premier card issue. All cards are bright and colorful, and most display much better eye appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. Total 37 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
