Kansas City Royals home jersey worn by journeyman pitcher Roger Nelson in 1971. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. The white flannel jersey is lettered "Royals" across the front and features the number "35" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in royal blue tackle twill. A Kansas City Royals team patch appears on the left sleeve. The year and set number ("71 - Set 2") are chain-stitched in royal blue upon a white strip tag located in the collar. A "Wilson 46" label appears on the left front tail. The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear including a few scattered light stains on the front. This is a rare flannel Royals jersey. The Royals joined the American League in 1969 and wore flannel uniforms for just four seasons before switching over to knits in 1973. Roger Nelson was an original member of the Kansas City Royals and he remained with the club for four seasons before being traded to the Reds. Nelson only appeared in thirteen games in 1971, but the following season he was 11-6 with a 2.08 ERA. He finished his career in 1976 with a lifetime record of 29-32. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is one of only five Kansas City Royals flannel jerseys and the only example from 1971 listed in the MEARS population. It is also only one of three Royals flannel jerseys graded at this level. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
