Chicago White Sox home jersey worn by third baseman Gene Freese in 1960. The white pinstripe flannel jersey is lettered "Sox" on the left breast and features the number "52" on the reverse and right sleeve. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in black on red tackle twill. "Freese" is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 42" label and a "1960" year tag (the year is chain-stitched in black upon a white strip tag). Freese has signed the jersey in blue fine-point marker (grading "8") on the left breast. The jersey has undergone a number change on the reverse and sleeve (Freese wore number "4" in 1960), and Freese's name has been removed from the reverse. Aside from those two team-sanctioned alterations, the jersey is all original and displays moderate wear, including a few small moth holes along the shoulders and reverse. Freese batted .273 with 17 home runs and 79 RBI in 1960. Graded A7 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 2 points deducted for the number change and 1 point deducted for the moth holes). Included with the jersey is a 1960 Topps baseball card of Freese (#435) that has been signed in blue marker ("10"). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $587.50
